About LEDs

A light-emitting diode (LED) is an electronic light source that is widely considered as the revolutionary new generation light source for both industrial and consumer applications. The LED was first invented in Russia in the 1920s, and introduced to America as a practical electronic component in 1962.

LEDs present many advantages over traditional light sources:

First, LEDs are highly energy efficient. To generate the same amount of light, an LED lighting fixture typically consumes about 20% of electricity that is used by its counterparts incorporating traditional lighting technologies (e.g., incandescent technology), converting over 90% of electrical energy to light with nominal heat generated.

LEDs last up to 50,000 hours (appx. 11.4 years), a more than 20 times longer lifetime compared with the traditional lighting technologies. LEDs’ long lifetime is also contributed by its solid state nature, which, unlike incandescent or fluorescent lighting technologies, does not involve any luminary gas and fragile filament or glass.

LEDs are difficult to damage with external shock, and maintenance free. A combination of high energy efficiency and long lifetime is translated to LEDs’ lower ownership and operation costs.

Fully programmable and easily dimmable, LEDs can illuminate unlimited color effect and pattern within people’s imagination, emitting virtually any color within visual spectrum without the use of color filters and other tools that traditional lighting solutions require.

LEDs are safe to use because of their low voltage applications, and LEDs do not emit UV that may jeopardize human skin, paper, paintings, fabrics and others materials.

In addition, LEDs are considered top on the list for environmentally friendly lighting solution. LEDs consume about 80% less energy than traditional lighting fixtures, leading to a smaller carbon footprint of the users. In addition, unlike fluorescent lamps, LEDs do not contain mercury and other toxic materials that negatively impact the living environment of the planet. LEDs are total green.
